Tasty? Yeah, Right!

Wild Monkeys

Hi guys, 2nd blog – my sister Nao is ‘going’ for an expression (see right) of surprise – not working, just ignoring her taunting! She says my blogging will just be a phase but that has made me more determined to keep you all entertained with stories of our unusual lives.

The reason I didn’t start earlier today was because of Mama Joyce, Nao and our semi-wild monkey we named Gremlin. He is mischievous; Mama would say ‘bad, bad moonkey’. Nao and I were having our breakfast when he decided to climb through the window and help himself to a bunch of bananas. Nao heard Mama walking towards the kitchen and leaned over to give him the fruit, only to be caught by an enraged Mama. I’ve never seen Nao move so fast; she scrambled out of the window after a fast vanishing monkey and stood just out of reach of a seething Mama Joyce. She was told that if Mama saw her again, until much later, she was going to pay the price. Then I was informed, very unfairly I might add, to join my brat sister. We crept back into the house when Mama was selecting greens from the vegetable patch, grabbed food and headed to our bedrooms.

Well, back to our game-drive yesterday. Our next surprise was a lion resting in the grass – well spotted by Isaac; as far as tourists are concerned these beautiful cats should also come with a notice strung around their necks saying ‘handle with extreme care; preferably DON’T HANDLE AT ALL!!!’ You would be surprised at how naive foreign visitors can be; the Nature Reserve on our border, Enthemba, had a Japanese tourist put his hand out to stroke a lion Photo: Janet Dubbelman uh…oh, as you can imagine, one extremely satisfied lion and one man minus a hand – not good for publicity!

Only joking, but don’t you think it looks as if the photos were taken in the same spot! I can assure you they weren’t – I value my hands and my life!’

Well guys, that’s me for today, signing off – will put up more photos and info later this week about the rest of the game-drive, need to hide, can hear Mama……….watch this space!

I am an author of Y/A books. My latest 'Dear George' is about a seventeen girl with high morals that finds out she has cancer just before her prom. She compromises her values and after her first chemo and almost losing her life to a femoral bleed, she finds out she is pregnant - what will she choose? Her life or the baby's?

    Hi
My friend said I should look up your website. He stays in Germany but is from Zimbabwe. I’m from Tampa Bay U.S.A. and feel as if I’m in Africa when I read about Philemon and Sam and the girls – put up more extracts soon. My friend said your book hasn’t been published yet – let us all know as soon as it is. The second one also looks very interesting.

Found your website by accident but am enjoying reading your extracts – is the book ‘The Hunted’ available in South Africa to buy? We go to the Kruger Park every year and can’t get enough of the bush – your descriptions bring it to life and I can imagine how kids from other countries would enjoy reading it. Thanks for putting Africa on the map!

I was looking for teenager books online and came across your website. As haven’t found your book on Amazon or in WH Smith, can I buy it from you? I live in Australia and found the spider YouTube video so funny as that’s exactly what i would have done -screamed and screamed, we also get huge spiders here so had that in common with Fern. I so want to visit Africa now and plan on travelling in two years when finished school. I think Africa will be one of my first stops.

    Hi
We’re going on a safari to Kenya next year and can’t wait – typed in safari and came up with your website. Love your descriptions, read all your items on ‘The Hunted’, where can i buy the book? I’ve looked online but can’t find it! Mama Joyce is one of my favourite characters and I really like Nao but since reading Fern’s blog and watching her YouTube videos really, really like her to. Please tell me where I can buy the book from? Bye, Fiona
